Hi, I’m Jane! I’ve been pastor at Traverse Bay since 2009, and I am so impressed with the congregation’s passion and welcome. Stop in and look around and I think you’ll find a safe and stimulating church family, a place to look for God and to grow in God’s grace and unconditional love. The people here have a passion for prayer and an addiction to mission. It’s really an inspiring place to be!
I understand those passions for prayer, and growth, and God. My own call to ministry came in 1979, when I spent a month in Jamaica. We were building a preschool and I thought, ‘I could do this for the rest of my life.’ Foreign mission wasn’t what God had in mind, but what a privilege to lead a group so passionate for hands-on service here and half way around the world, in Haiti. Every week my calling is renewed. It’s renewed in daily congregational life as together we do what alone might seem impossible. It’s renewed in worship and praise, and in the special relationship that only exists between congregation and pastor.
I like to think I am a community pastor. That means I’m here for you whether or not you’re a part of the church congregation. Perhaps you are wondering about your own life purpose. We all wrestle with that from time to time. Perhaps you want to grow more spiritually and you would like a guide or encourager. Maybe you just want to talk. Please know my door is open to you.
A little more about me… I love children and I’m originally from Manistee. I went to seminary in Boston, where I met my husband Chris Lane. Chris also serves as a pastor, just down the street at Central United Methodist. We have two daughters, both just starting adulthood. Hannah is a pastry chef at Patisserie Amie, in Traverse City. My youngest, Rachel, is studying journalism at Alma College. (And we probably shouldn’t forget Hank. He’s a lab mix with a fondness for Frisbee). Before coming to Traverse City I served near Alma, in Muskegon and Grand Rapids.
I’ve found a welcome and a home at Traverse Bay. I hope you do too!
